Thanks to PWHF curator Diane and Unfinished Lines artists Sarah and Simone the exhibition has been hung today in this great venue. Already attracting the attention of their many visitors during the set up process! What a fabulous venue, full o f history and beautiful grounds. We encourage people to visit their building, jam packed with stories of the area and locals, past and present ... we hope you enjoy.
Brilliant afternoon of cake and tea celebrating the opening of the Unfinished Lines project. Locals, interstate and overseas visitors felt the exhibition presented some beautiful imagery in a tranquil place. The words of the seniors stories touched many, with visitors having the opportunity to talk with those about their histories.
Super excited to be heading out to the peaceful surrounds of the bush on Sunday for more story gathering with another senior. Sabine and I feel very privileged to sit and listen to these oh so interesting tales. More photos to follow of our afternoon.
What a wonderful afternoon way to spend a Sunday afternoon, sitting under the shade at the Olive pink Botanical Gardens. Here we sat and listened to the stories being told from one of our seniors. Drinking tea and eating homemade brownies we laughed, reminisced, shared both sad and happy memories. Thank you Wendy, Sabine and I loved every minute
“Written in a Carefree Mood”
Lu Yu, 12th-century Chinese poet Old man pushing seventy, In truth he acts like a little boy, Whooping with delight when he spies some mountain fruits, Laughing with joy, tagging after village mummers; With the others having fun stacking tiles to make a pagoda, Standing alone staring at his image in the jardinière pool. Tucked under his arm, a battered book to read, Just like the time he first set out to school. We were excited to find we were successful recipients with the Alice Springs Town Council 2017 Community Grants- great news. Monday 27/3/2017 saw us accept our grant along with other groups. What a fantastic initiative for local community groups to access - thanks Alice Springs Town Council
Work has started on costumes for the exhibition - we are busy dyeing, printing fabric and deconstructing unwanted garments ready to turn into costumes that reflect the environment the images were taken. Unique three dimensional pieces are also being created from a variety of materials, each one carefully showcasing the colours and feel of the Central Australian landscape.
Before the end of 2016 we entered the Contemporary Art Awards with two images captured whilst doing a seniors shoot for Unfinished Lines. Sarah, Simone and Sabine collectively worked on a piece that would showcase our environment and talk about the consumer cycle. It is called 'Bower Business' and was selected as a finalist for the Contemporary Art Awards - www.contemporaryartawards.com. At the same time Bronwyn and Sabine entered a piece from Unfinished Lines into the National Photographic Portrait Prize - it showcased the vibrant red sand and one of our seniors Margaret.
